The Rug Legacy

Little known facts about The Rugs

Estimated to be over 2,500 years old, the world’s oldest existing carpet is dubbed the “Pazyryk Carpet”. It is classified as a Persian rug dating to 5 BCE.

Believed to have been hand knotted by nomadic people of Central Asia—possibly Persian or Armenian in origin.

Crafted with complex geometric patterns and depictions of deer and horsemen, the Pazyryk Carpet was nearly 2 x 2 mtrs in size.

The Tufting Story

Rug tufting, as a technique, likely originated in ancient Persia, Egypt, and China. The oldest known tufted textile, dating back to the 2nd or 3rd century AD and of Egyptian-Roman origin, suggests a long history of this technique.

While the craft has ancient roots, the modern tufting process, particularly the use of tufting guns, is more recent, with the invention of the mechanical tufting gun credited to Dalton, Georgia, around 1930.

The Present Day Patterns

Modern industrial revolution has transformed the rug and carpet industry by introducing speed, consistency, and scalability to what was once a highly manual and time-intensive craft.

Computer-Aided Design (CAD) allows for highly customized patterns. Sustainable practices: Recycled fibers, biodegradable backing materials, and waste-reduction systems are being implemented.

Indian Rugs - artistry in every thread

India’s rug and carpet legacy dates back to the Mughal era, where Persian artistry blended with Indian tradition to create timeless masterpieces. Today, Indian handcrafted rugs are admired worldwide for their intricate designs, vibrant colors, and enduring quality. Each rug is woven with passion, sustainability, and generations of skill.

Choosing an authentic Indian rug means bringing home heritage, elegance, and unmatched craftsmanship that transforms any space into a statement of culture and style.
